At 26th February, Ministry of Health announced that Guangdong Province has identified a case of human infection with HAPAIV.
The patient named Zhang, female, 44 years old, was a worker from other parts in Haifeng, Shanwei city, Guangdong province. The disease broke out at 16th February and worsened at 22nd February, so she was sent to hospital. At 24th Fenbruary, Disease Prevention and Control Center of Guangdong checked the specimen of the patient's respiratory tract and found positive H5N1 nucleic acid. At 25th February, conditions of the patient worsened rapidly and died after all efforts. China Disease Prevention and Control Center rechecked the specimen of the patient's respiratory tract at 25th February and found positive H5N1 nucleic acid. According to epidemiological survey from local health departments, the suffers had contact with fowl dying of illness before becoming ill.
According to the definition of diagnosis of human infection with HPAIV given by WHO and diagnosis standards of China, experts of human flu prevention from Ministry of Health believed this was a case of human infection with HPAIV.
The local government attached high attention to it after break-out of the epidemic situation and has taken preventing measures according to Emergency Plan for Human Infection with HPAIV. The 83 who had close contact with the death had been strictly watched medically and by the present there were no abnormal clinical manifestations.
Ministry of Health has reported the situation of the patient to WHO, Hongkong and Macao and Taiwan and other countries.
