Leprosy is a kind of infectious chronicdisease affecting the skin and nerves. Leprosy bacillus was firstly found by a Norwegian scholar, Gerhard Armauer Hansen in 1874, so leprosy is also called Hansen’s Disease. The only known source of infection is the leper not cured.

According to different immunity of qrganism, there are two kinds of leprosy, PB and MB clinically. PB patients are with stronger immunity, so the infection is weak. Its earlier symptom is like the following: dry surface of one or several parts of skin, clear borderlines, erythema without itch, negative bacteria, earlier numbness, huge nerves and abnormality limits of body.

There will be diffusive soakage over skins of face, body and arms and legs of MB patients. 1/3 of eyebrows will become sparse and drop off and patients will have a dropsy on his face and feel that there are ants creeping over it. He is of conjunctival congestion like a drunk. At this time his nerves may not be huge and his skin is not numbed, however, the sensitive patient will find organism abnormal and leprosy bacillus will prove positive after detailed examination. But if the patient cannnot receive examination in time, there will be erythema and protuberance in organism. His skin will be numbed gradually, nerves become huge and all eyebrows drop off and he has the typical symptoms of lepromatous leprosy.
